The name says it all - this blog is a place for members of the EOC community to report about what's going on here at the EOC, or to reflect about what's going on anywhere else in the world. We welcome contributions from not only our staff, but from our students, alumni, and community partners.

Wow!! What a turn out for the April 6th Department of Labor presentation, “CAREERS OF THE FUTURE: What Students Need to Know about the Job Market”!  While we planned for 20 students, 47 students signed in. Some teachers and staff members also attended.

The presenter, Ms. Karen Knapik-Scalzo from the US Department of Labor, provided everyone with critical information about CNY’s economy and employment prospects.  And surprisingly, the news was not all bad! For example, even though CNY’s economy is slowing down, there are still employment opportunities out there in the areas of computer technology, customer service, accounting and many entry-level positions. Not to mention the opportunities in the fast-growing health industry. So don’t lose hope - especially since gett ... The Syracuse EOC community will again be participating in a "shared reading" experience in 2009.  This year, we are reading A Long Way Gone by Ishmael Beah, the book chosen by Syracuse University's Shared Reading Program.

It's that time of year again - we're putting our kids on the bus, breaking out the cool-weather jackets, and looking up to the tops of the trees to see how much the color has changed.  Here at the Syracuse EOC, classes started on Monday.  Students have been coming in ready to learn and expand their opportunities!

Over the summer, we've seen some welcome changes.  The most obvious to you will probably be the fresh paint, the new carpeting, and the shiny furniture that you'll find throughout the building.  In fact, you've probably already seen all the new stuff in the Admissions Office (room 200).  But make sure you also get up to the Administration Office in room 313 to check out the new digs there!  And we're not done yet - so make sure you watch your step over the next few weeks if you see people working in the hallways or classrooms.

We also have some additions to our staff:  Cindy Cummin ... Read More »
