LaVena Jones is a woman with a plan. In 2006, she enrolled in the SEOC's Customer Service program. In the same year, she began classes at Onondaga Community College in Health Information Technology. The faculty and staff watched her as she successfully balanced her SEOC coursework and her OCC commitments, and in the fall of 2006 she was offered a job in the main administration office of the SEOC as a part-time administrative clerk.
"I've been able to to apply the lessons I learned in the SEOC's Customer Service program to real-world situations," says LaVena, "and they've also helped me to obtain some great internships as part of my program at OCC. The best thing about the classes at the SEOC is that they are so small - you can always get the attention you need from the instructors, and they really invest themselves in your success. It's a great place to learn AND work!"
LaVena's next goal after she graduates from OCC is to move ahead and get her 4-year degree in Health Administration. The SEOC will be sad to see her go, but we know she has a great future ahead of her!
