The Medical Secretary (MS) Program at Syracuse Educational Opportunity Center prepares students for entry-level secretarial positions in the fast-growing health care industry. Upon successful completion of the program, students have the knowledge and skills necessary to work in hospitals, clinics, doctors’ and dentists’ offices, government agencies and insurance companies.
Students receive training in medical office procedures, medical terminology and patient billing, collection and reimbursement using an industry standard computer software program. Students also learn the technological aspects of preparing and maintaining medical documents, forms and records. Medical ethics and HIPPA requirements are also included.
This is an evening-only program (5:30-8:30) lasting 15 weeks, with sessions starting in September and January.
Academic Eligibility Requirements for Medical Secretary (MS) Program:
- 9.0 reading score on TABE placement exam
- High School Diploma or GED
- Ability to keyboard a minimum of 15 wpm on a timed test
- Demonstrated basic computer and Microsoft Word skills on timed test
- Two professional references
- Complete interview with program counselor
